WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will review for Chapter Two test on Monday and take the test on Tuesday.  They will begin Chapter Three which deals with the basic skills in biotech labs.  If the student has not turned in all contracts and passed the safety test with 90 or above, labs will not occur this week.

FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will take test on Chapters One and Two on Monday.  They will read Chapter 3 on physical evidence.  Weather permitting and if all students have turned in their contracts and have passed the safety test with 90 or above, we will do our first lab this week.

PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

Studednts will finish work on the skeletal system flow chart in class on Monday.  This project is due first thing on Tuesday morning.  We will continue to explore the interconnectiveness of the body systems the rest of the week.

HUMAN BIOCHEMISTRY

Students will begin work on reaction rates and equilibrium this week.  We will go over the test on solution chemistry as soon as all students have taken the test..

WEEK OF MAY 7, 2012

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will begin Chapter 12 on medical biotechnology.  They will also continue viewing and caring for their plant cultures of carrots and venus fly traps.

FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will continue unit on Entomology this week. They will take notes and finish reading the packet.  Students will begin studying for final exam.

PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

We will continue the unit on Infectious Disease this week. Powerpoint on viruses, especially the process of infection and treatment of HIV.  Students will have short period of time this week to work in groups on Part VII of Grant Proposal.

MEDICAL PROJECTS

Students will share their experiences during their last weeks of job shadowing.  We will finish the semester with topics of medical ethics.

WEEK OF APRIL 30, 2012

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will continue studying Chapter 10 and plant propagation. Students will observe their carrot clones and their venus fly traps and determine if they are ready to be transplanted.  If they are ready, we will transplant them on Thursday.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will begin unit on Entomology this week.  They will take notes and finish reading the packet.  We will set traps outside with meat to observe the insects that come to the cadaver (chicken breast).


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

We will continuethe unit on Infectious Disease this week. Powerpoint on infectious disease will be finished on Monday. Students will have short period of time this week to work in Groups on Part V of Grant Proposal.

MEDICAL PROJECTS

Students will job shadow on Monday and Thursday.  This is there last week of job shadowing.

WEEK OF APRIL 16, 2012

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will continue studying Chapter 10 and plant propagation. We will take notes and write pre-lab report on Tuesday and perform lab on plant tissue culture on Wednesday.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will continue the unit on serology and blood spatter this week. We will analyze the blood spatter lab from Friday on Tuesday. 

PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

 We will begin the unit on Infectious Disease this week.  Powerpoint on infectious disease will be presented Monday along with vocabulary.  Students will have short period of time on Monday to work in Groups on Part IV of Grant Proposal which is due at first of period on Thursday.  We will continue work on infectious agents on Thursday.


MEDICAL PROJECTS

Students will job shadow on Monday and Thursday.

WEEK OF APRIL 9

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will quickly cover the different types of chromatography in Chapter 9 and then move on the Chapter 10 and plant propagation.  We will take notes and prepare to do lab next week on plant tissue culture.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will continue the unit on serology and blood spatter this week. We will perform a blood alcohol level lab on Tuesday and a blood spatter lab on Friday. 


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

We will finish the unit on Hypercholesterolemia. Students will have test review on Wednesday and Test on Unit 5 on Thursday.  We will begin the unit on Infectious Disease next week.


MEDICAL PROJECTS

Students will job shadow on Monday and Thursday. Wednesday will be our day to share experiences and turn in journals.

WEEK OF MARCH 19, 2012

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will be taking the high school graduation exams this week during both the Tuesday and Friday class meetings.  We will not meet again until after spring break next week.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will begin the unit on serology and blood spatter this week.  We will perform a blood typing lab on Friday.  Remember next week is spring break!


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

We will continue the unit on Hypercholesterolemia. Students will finish making a brochure on cholesterol. Students will turn in next section of their grant proposal on Thursday.  Brochures will also be due on Thursday.  Remember next week is spring break!


MEDICAL PROJECTS

Students will job shadow on Monday and Thursday. Wednesday will be our day to share experiences and turn in journals.  Remember spring break is next week!

WEEK OF MARCH 12, 2012

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will continue with Chapter 8. We will be in the lab on Tuesday to perform a genetic lab on HNPCC a form of inherited colon cancer. 


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will continue finish unit on hair and fibers this week. We will have a test review on Wednesday and test on Chapter 8 on Friday.


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

We will continue the unit on Hypercholesterolemia. Students will begin making a brochure on cholesterol.  Students will also be given time to work on their group grant proposals.

Students will continue with Chapter 7.  We will be in the lab to practice using a spectrophotometer and to use pH meters.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will continue anthropology unit this week. We will have a lab practical to identify the list of bones located on the moodle site.


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

We will continue the unit on Sickle Cell Anemia.  Students will present and discuss their research.

Students will continue anthropology unit this week. We will finish lab to identify skulls of different hominids on Tuesday and continue notes to finish unit the rest of the week.

Students will continue anthropology unit this week. We will finish comparative anatomy lab on Tuesday, watch the video "The Perfect Corpse" on Wednesday and do a lab to identify skulls of different hominids on Friday.

Students will have test on Diabetes Unit on Monday.  We will begin the unit on Sickle Cell Anemia on Thursday.

INTRODUCTION TO BIOTECHNOLOGY

Students will study different types of assays including activity, stability, potency, concentration, toxicology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

Students will begin anthropology unit this week.  We will do comparative anatomy lab on Tuesday and notes on Friday.


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

Students will perform chemical assays to determine the type of macromolecules present in several common food items.  We will finish the unit on Diabetes this week.


MEDICAL PROJECTS

Students will job shadow on Monday and Thursday.  We will share experience on Wednesday.

We will continue the study of odontology this week. We will cast our teeth impressions on Tuesday and test on odontology on Friday.

Students will only meet one day this week. We will finish diabetes unit this week.

There will be a test review on Tuesday for Chapter 5 and the test will be on Friday.  Prior to test review, students will set up thin layer chromatography of black ink.   Bring your books.


FORENSIC SCIENCE

We will continue the study of odontology this week.  We will do a bite mark analysis on Friday.


PRINCIPLES OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE

Students will only meet one day this week. We will introduce the Grant Proposal project for the spring and pick our groups to work together. Students will continue the unit on diabetes.
